First up - head on back to Rosey's blog and check out her posts! She's very talented and her cards inparticular always inspire me. I met Rosey online in 2008 when she lived in Singapore. Her mum lives down the road from me, I work in the same building that she used to work in (before I was there of course) and we had a whole host of other random things in common. Weirdest of all - we met on an American scrapbooking site and were the only two Brits on there! We met up in real life when she was home and now regularly meet up to chat and scrap. We've added to our Brit scrapbooking contingent with Kelly and Stephanie too and have great fun. We especially love meeting our American friends for afternoon tea in London when they come to visit! :)
So - for this virtual blog hop I've been asked to respond to a few questions about my creative process..... lets take a jump into my world! lol ......
1) What am I working on?
Well - I am working on a number of different things at the moment. Primarily I am creative with Scrapbooking, but lately I've been working on cakes, cards and all manner of other random creative projects.
This is a sneak peak of a layout I am creating for the Scrapwhisper blog - love those purple wellies! ;)
I have made a number of cakes already in June - the one above is for my dance class (it's of our logo!) we recently moved venues and I took cake to celebrate
This cake is for a friend of a friend - Peppa Pig is seriously popular right now!
I made this one last week......
And just this week I made a cake for one of my friends - he is a huge star wars fan! Loved making this one the most as I had to carve the cake into the right shape - I downloaded actual plans for the Millennium Falcon from online and tried to replicate it as best I could!
I have forthcoming orders for a scooby doo cake, a camera cake, a power ranger cake, a one direction cake and an eagle cake! That should keep me busy for a while!
With the same friend, I run a wedding stationery business. I currently have a pile of black and white invites on my desk that I'm working on. They are pretty lace ones! It's actually quite refreshing to make black and white ones I have to say - most weddings so far this year have been royal blue or navy blue!
I also have a small number of save the date magnets that I am working on - most are still top secret but this one I can now share! :) I've found a love for making magnets, badges / buttons and scrapbook flair! :)
In addition to all this I run an etsy shop and my cupcake toppers are flying out - this is the batch I'm working on at the moment - orange and yellow! :) Nice and summery
So not much really huh! ;)
2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
Oooh difficult question! I have to say I am a little bit random (hence the title of this blog) I don't really think I fit into any particular style so therefore it's hard to compare my creativity! When it comes to scrapbooking I prefer clean and simple lines - balanced pages without too many bulky embellishments. The only reason for this is because I don't like the way dents get into my pages when stored in albums with other embellishments behind them!
Cake's vary massively - I am still finding my feet with the hobby. I like to put little round bobbles of fondant around the base of my cakes when I can though - I guess that's my signature! ;)
Wedding business wise I am in the hands of my customers - they tell me what they want and I do my best to replicate it. Compared to the rest of the wedding market - there is nothing similar out there. They are usually off the shelf kind of designs - I prefer to try and meet the vision of the bride. It's their wedding afterall! I can only advise on what I think looks good.
3) Why do I create what I do?
The only reason I create anything is because it brings me enjoyment and pleasure. I love crafting - it calms me down after busy days. I love the pleasure making a special cake for someone gives me - especially when they are so thrilled. I like tasks to focus on, jobs to cross off a list - this keeps me occupied and out of trouble !
4) How does your creating process work?
Again it depends on what I'm creating as to how the process will work - scrapbooking I tend to work from my photos - pull out the colours and match papers and embellishments to this and work from there.
Cakes depend on what orders I receive - usually they tell me what they are looking for, I search a photo on the internet of whichever character and try to build them from that. I have standard recipes for many cakes now so that bit is always the same. When I cover a cake it depends on how the icing lays as to how I go from there - if there is a kink I might cover it with a flower for example and then that flower might turn into a whole garden etc etc.
So that's a little bit about me - hope you've had fun!
Rosey asked you to see how many cats I have..... the answer is 4! :)
Head on over to my friend Nora's blog next Monday for her responses to the above questions! She is a darling scrapbooker, card maker and all around craft maker from America and I am constantly inspired by her work! You will love her blog too - such bright colours and beautiful cards.
